Technical Writer

Technical Writer – Level 2

Location: Remote
Security Clearance: Active Secret Security Clearance

Core Responsibilities:

The Technical Writer must perform the following:

  • Plan, research, write and edit documentation, including help text, user manuals, technical documentation, web page content, communiqués, briefing notes, technical bulletins,
  • standard operating procedures, configuration standards, meeting minutes, release notes for software, user and operational guides, training documentation, checklists, etc.
  • Document help text, user manuals, technical documentation, web page content, etc.
  • Review documentation standards and the existing project documentation.
  • Determine documentation requirements and makes plans for meeting them.
  • Gather information concerning the features and functions provided by the developers.
  • Assess the audience for the documents/manuals which are required and prepare a statement of purpose and scope for each.
  • Develop a table of content for each document/manual and write or edit the required content.
  • Investigate the accuracy of the information collected by making direct use of the material being documented.
  • Prepare or coordinate the preparation of any required illustrations and diagrams.
  • Design the layout of the documents/manuals.
  • Use word-processing, desk-top publishing and, graphics software packages to produce final documents.
  • Provide guidance and knowledge transfer to team members; and any other work related to this category.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience, within the last ten (10) years, in the development and editing of Technical / Engineering documentation related to IT.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience, within the last five (5) years, in using a task management tool such as MS SharePoint.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience, within the last five (5) years, in drafting or reviewing project management and engineering documents such as project deliverable templates, project charters, lessons learned, concept of operations, system requirement specifications and system design specifications, etc.
  • Must have two (2) years of experience in the last five (5) years working with Microsoft Office, Visio and SharePoint.
  • Demonstrate experience developing and editing of Technical/ Engineering documentation related to IT.
  • Demonstrate experience creating document templates working in an IT environment.
  • Demonstrate experience working in document management using a document management tool, such as SharePoint.
  • Demonstrate experience in creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and User Guides.
